It is estimated that in the last decade, over 31,000 children came to Kathmandu from every corner of Nepal to escape war, forced conscription, and crumbling communities in search of a stable, promising future. Many were trafficked illegally by men offering desperate and poverty stricken parents false opportunities of education in boarding schools in Kathmandu. These children, as young as 2 years old, end up living in abusive and neglectful homes, confined to domestic slavery or struggling to survive on the streets in Kathmandu. UFN’s mission is to give lasting aid to these helpless and often forgotten victims of Nepal’s decade long conflict.

With more than 350 children in 8 homes, today UFN provides more care for conflict-displaced children than any other organization in the Kathmandu Valley. Registered in Nepal in 2005, UFN works closely with Nepal’s Child Welfare Board and local law enforcement to rescue conflict-displaced children and offer them a secure future, with their parents if possible, and in UFN’s legal care when it is not.
